  • Carol Shanahan OBE: “Prior to purchasing the club in 2019, we were told that if we wanted to help the Burslem community thrive, we needed to make Port Vale successful. We are making great strides forward both on and off the pitch and are determined to continue our growth with our community at the heart of what we do.”

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Community and CSR Director at Port Vale Football Club.

Matt Hancock will join the Vale in January, following 11 successful years with Burton Albion Community Trust. This newly established role has been created by the Board of Directors as part of the club’s continued investment and commitment to ensuring community is at the heart of everything we do.

Matt, who is also a non-executive director at Staffordshire FA, will work with the club’s senior leadership team, Port Vale Foundation and Bescura Family Hubb to shape our Community and CSR Strategy as we look to build on the support we have provided to thousands of local people in Burslem and the surrounding areas since the Shanahan family purchased Port Vale in the summer of 2019.

Commenting on Matt’s imminent arrival at Vale Park, Carol Shanahan OBE said:

“We are delighted to be welcoming Matt to the football club in the New Year and look forward to his strategic input as we develop our Community and CSR strategy.

“Prior to purchasing the club in 2019, we were told that if we wanted to help the Burslem community thrive, we needed to make Port Vale successful. We are making great strides forward both on and off the pitch and are determined to continue our growth with our community at the heart of what we do.

“Matt arrives with a great reputation after driving the development of Burton Albion Community Trust’s work in the East Midlands. He is very passionate about our community through his own connection to the area and we are looking forward to seeing that enthusiasm transmit into shaping our Community and CSR Strategy moving forward.”

Matt added:

“I am delighted to join Port Vale; it is a really exciting time to join the club following the success on and off the pitch in recent years. I look forward to working with Carol and the rest of the team in the New Year.

“I live locally and have been so impressed by the way in which Carol and the existing team have supported the community since purchasing the club in 2019, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very mindful of the challenging times ahead for our communities and clearly we have an important role in ensuring we support local people most in need through the winter months.”
