Shortwood or Aldershot?

Vale find out tomorrow who they will face in the FA Cup

November.th or Sunday 10thShortwood United travel to Aldershot tomorrow night for their FA Cup replay, with the prize being a home tie against the Vale on either Saturday 9

On Saturday Shortwood earned themselves a replay when Shots’ fan Sean Lawson came on as a substitute six minutes from time to replace Nick Hancock – no, not that one - and fired home the equaliser with a minute left on the clock.

Vale now await the outcome of Tuesday night’s replay to see who they will be facing in the First Round Proper in just under two weeks time.

They already know a bit about Aldershot of course, playing them as recently as April here at Vale Park, when the two sides drew 1-1 in the run in to promotion.

The two sides ending up going in opposite direction as Vale were promoted to League One, whilst the Shots suffered relegation from the Football League.

The last time the two sides met at Aldershot’s EBB Stadium was last November, when goals from Ben Williamson, Ryan Burge and Jennison Myrie-Williams gave Vale the three points.

Shortwood United are a different kettle of fish. Based in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, they currently ply their trade in the Southern League Division One South & West.

They finished as runners up in the Hellenic Premier Division in 2011/2012 to earn promotion to the Southern League for the first time in their history.

The match against Aldershot was the first time they had ever played in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, so it is all new to them.

Should they manage to get the win against an Aldershot side currently sitting second from bottom in the Conference Premier, the match against Vale would take place at their Meadowbank Ground stadium.
