James Wilson to Leave The Valiants

Port Vale Football Club can confirm that James Wilson will leave the club following the expiration of his contract.

Wilson came to Vale Park in June 2021 and in his first season made 47 appearances across all competitions, scoring 15 goals in what turned out to be a play-off winning campaign for the Valiants.

This season appearances have been restricted, with the forward being held back by unfortunate injuries and setbacks, appearing 27 times with a return of three goals in League One.

The striker leaves the club with a total of 74 appearances and 18 goals and we would like to place on record our appreciation for James for the time he has spent at Vale Park and would like to wish him all the best for the future.

Director of Football, David Flitcroft said:"On behalf of the club, the board would like to thank James for his contributions at Vale Park especially the part he played in helping us to achieve our place in League One through the play-offs last season.

“We’d like to also thank him for his professionalism and commitment, which he showed during his time here and we wish him nothing but success in the future.”

Earlier this afternoon James sent the following message to supporters:

"To the Valiants,

"Thank you for your endless support and for believing in me throughout my time at the club.

"It was always going to be special being back at home and welcomed as your number 9, though I never anticipated the special memories we would make together and I hope you will always remember them fondly.

"Thank you to all 🤍🖤"
