Port Vale complete the signing of David Amoo

8 July 2019

Port Vale are delighted to announce the signing of winger David Amoo on a one-year deal.

The former Cambridge United winger becomes John Askey's seventh signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Adam Crookes, Richie Bennett and Mark Cullen.

The 28-year-old arrives at the club with a wealth of experience throughout the leagues having started his career at Liverpool. He has since gone on to play for the likes of Hull City, Preston North End, Carlisle United and Partick Thistle.

Amoo moved to Scotland after playing 70 league matches for Carlisle United and went on to play a further 71 games for the Scottish side.

Growing up as a youngster, Amoo was well known for his blistering pace having represented London as a sprinter in the English Schools National Track and Field Championships.

Now a Vale man and part of the new era at Vale Park, he says he's really looking forward to the future.

"I'm very happy to be here and looking forward to getting going. It's a great stadium and I've played here a few times and it always has a good atmosphere. I'm looking forward to being amongst it."

John Askey will have fond memories of Amoo, with the winger scoring the winner against the Vale for Cambridge United in his first game as manager for the club, so it's safe to say he's happy to see him in a Vale shirt now.

"We've looked at David for quite a while, he played well against us when we played Cambridge back in February. I've watched him a few times and obviously he's got that pace we've been looking for and he can play on either wing. I think Vale Park will suit him.

"The Cambridge front three caused us problems down there with David being the main threat with his pace. It wasn't just that game, I watched him against Tranmere and Macclesfield and he did really well. We've watched a lot of footage of him and I'm looking forward to working with him."
