Striker excited to start new campaign
Port Vale striker Ben Williamson has signed a new two-year contract with the club.
The 24-year-old who agreed terms a fortnight ago scored nine goals in all competitions last season as Vale secured promotion back to League 1.
Williamson said: “I am absolutely buzzing for it, obviously it was a great season last season, I’ve just got to try and push on from here really.
“Moving up to League 1 was a big factor, I’m quite settled here now and I’ve got a good relationship with the boys.”
Williamson revealed he will be doing all he can to force his way into Micky Adams’ side next season and believes the goals will come with more games.
“Ideally I want to start more game, last season I didn’t start many games but I still managed to score nine goals which was ok but I want to be starting games, hopefully if I start more games I’ll score more.”
Williamson will face competition from League 2 player of the year Tom Pope and veteran Lee Hughes for a place up-front next season as Vale look to push on in League 1.
Williamson told Valiant Player: “There is always going to be competition for places no matter where you are so hopefully I will just get a good pre-season under my belt.
“I’m sure everyone will be running hard under the gaffer.”
With the Port Vale squad due to report back to training on June 27, Williamson is fully aware of the fitness needed to cope with Micky Adams’ pre-season.
“The boys have been panicking so they’ve been doing a few runs before we come back because they know it’s going to get harder, but you can only do so much, so hopefully I’ll be alright,” said Williamson.
