Alnwick Targeting Success Next Season

Port Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is already looking ahead to next season after being named the Club’s Young Player of the Year at the weekend.

The 22-year-old received the award at the Valiants’ annual end of season dinner, held at Vale Park on Saturday night.

He made 48 appearances over the course of the campaign, keeping ten clean sheets in League One, and his form meant he beat out Chris Neal to be Rob Page’s number one.

Speaking to the press, the shot-stopper was delighted to have been recognised by the supporters and outlined his targets for 2016/17.

“I feel privileged to win an award in my first season here,” he said. “I want to thank everyone who has voted for me, it’s been brilliant.

“I feel like I’ve got more to offer. Obviously I got a little injury and Nealy played and I’ve got to give a little mention to him because not only is he a top pro but he’s helped me out a lot.

“I want to play as many games as possible and at the minute it’s down to Port Vale Football Club and I owe them a lot. It’s about getting Port Vale into the play-offs next season.”

Alnwick also discussed the details surrounding his move to Burslem from Newcastle United last summer.

He signed for the Club just days before the opening match of the season at Crewe Alexandra but found it easy to settle at Vale Park.

“The lads here have been brilliant, even the staff, down to Norman,” he added. “I only signed on the Thursday and I played on the Saturday and he got me a hotel last minute.

“It’s been brilliant, my first full season in the league it’s been tough and I’ve learnt new things but on the whole it’s nice to get used to things and it’s been very good.”
