WATCH | The Gaffer and Devante Cole preview Mansfield Town

Darren Moore

Darren Moore was joined by Devante Cole in Thursday’s press conference, looking ahead to Saturday's game with Mansfield Town at Vale Park.

Devante spoke about his start to life at Vale:

“It’s been a good start, physically I’m not 100%, but yeah, it’s been a good start.”

Cole was asked about the relief to have an opportunity to play again:

“For me, it’s just about getting my love back for football, it was about getting back out there and enjoying playing.”

The strikers' relationship with the manager:

“We had a really good conversation, he outlined things, and I told him what my aim is from now until the end of the season. He agreed, and we had a basic understanding.”

The boss on the atmosphere after the first league win:

“The boys have had more of a spring in their step; a win obviously does that. A bit of relief with all the effort we’d been putting in and the marginal results that hadn’t gone our way.

“We’ve had another solid week, which was good. We had an in-house game to get some minutes into the players who were lacking minutes.”

Darren spoke about the importance of building on the win:

“There’s a psychological element to getting that first win on the board.

“There's so much to get through in the week, a lot of planning and preparation.”

The Gaffer provided an update on George Hall:

“Yeah, he’s getting closer; a lot of people are eager to see him play. We don’t want people to see an undercooked George Hall, that wouldn’t be fair on him.

“He’s done really well over the last 7-10 days.”

The partnership between Paton and Cole was also discussed:

“Yeah, it’s wonderful to see both of them getting the goals last week.

“The understanding they showed with each other was great for them and great for us. You can see how complimentary they are to each other.”

Darren’s thoughts ahead of Mansfield:

“My biggest focus is on the Mansfield fixture, coming up against a great team and a manager who I respect massively.

“I can’t thank the fans enough for their support, the 400-odd fans who travelled to Exeter were outstanding and we need that again on Saturday.

“They’re a great team, they have a huge goal-scoring threat going forward.”
