Press Conference | Hear from the Gaffer and Jayden Stockley pre AFC Wimbledon

AFCW

Jayden Stockley joined the Gaffer in Thursday's pre-match press conference, where we looked towards the trip to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Jayden spoke about being back in the team:

“It has been a slow start to the season for me, individually picking up that injury at Rotherham. It was really disappointing after the hard pre-season I had.

“I was pleased to get a start in the cup the other night, even though I wasn’t at my best, it was great to get minutes.”

The striker spoke about the competition in the team upfront:

“I don’t enjoy it when I’m not in the squad. You’ve got to keep up your professionalism and get on with your job.”

Stockley touched on the signing of Devante Cole and playing alongside him:

“I think everyone can create a partnership with anyone. His hold up play doesn’t get enough credit, some nice touches and the assist on his debut was fantastic.

“I look forward to hopefully getting minutes with him.”

Jayden was asked about the morale in the group following recent results:

“Regarding the group, there could’ve been a few heads to go down after the start, but the results we’ve had recently is a real testament to the group.”

Vale’s number 9 gave his thoughts about returning to Wimbledon:

“Wimbledon has been a club I’ve scored against a lot. You do get good feelings about stadiums and football clubs you play.”

Jayden looked ahead to Saturday's game with both teams being in good form:

“They can often be cagey; we're both coming off good runs and the platform for these results has been the clean sheets.”

The Gaffer firstly spoke about a busy week:

“It’s been a busy week, but that’s the football season. Sometimes you’ll have a one-game week and sometimes you’ll have a three-game week.

“The players have been in today and the group seem in a really good place.”

Darren spoke about Ben Amos coming back into the squad following injury:

“Yeah, it gives competition. We knew the situation at the start of the season with Ben when he got his bad injury, and we had to act quickly.

“He got some minutes on Tuesday, and he did really well. It was great for him to get 90 minutes and a clean sheet.”

The boss touched on the momentum that his side has built up:

“Yeah, it's important, in anything you want to keep that momentum going. The players have worked really hard to gain the momentum we have.

“The other night saw ten changes and what impressed me the most was the mentality of the group to want to keep that going.”

Moore ended the conference talking about the importance of his team keeping clean sheets:

“It’s not just the defensive unit, it’s the team as a whole knowing what the clean sheet means.

“We know it’s always going to be tested, but they’ve been put through certain situations already, so they know what it takes.”
