The Valiants kicked off their pre-season campaign behind closed doors with a 5-0 win against National League side, Tamworth.
A Mo Faal brace and goals from Onel Hernandez, Jordan Gabriel and Charlie Bussell were enough to secure the win for Jon Brady’s side.
Faal grabbed his first of the game with just ten minutes on the clock as Hernandez got on the end of a defence-splitting pass from Byers and teed up the forward to convert from six yards out.
It was Hernandez’s turn to get on the scoresheet fourteen minutes later as another perfect pass from Byers found the run of the winger, who cut inside onto his left foot and curled into the goalkeeper’s top right-hand corner to double the Vale’s lead.
With thirty-four minutes gone, Onel turned provider once more as he beat his man down the Vale right and teed up Jordan Gabriel, who found the back of the net from just inside of the area.
Faal grabbed his second goal of the game with what was the last kick of the first half. The Tamworth goalkeeper made a good save from a low Hernandez effort, but Faal reacted quickest to react as he feigned a shot to beat his man and fired into the bottom corner from close-range.
The game’s fifth and final goal came from academy graduate, Charlie Bussell. Trialist C latched onto a good ball over the top of the Tamworth defence, but saw his effort blocked into the path of Bussell, who fired an effort across the goalkeeper and into the bottom left-hand corner to top off a productive evening’s work for the Valiants.
Thank you to Tamworth for making the journey this evening and best of luck with your upcoming campaign!
