Port Vale Football Club has published its accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025.
The club’s latest accounts reflect a season that began in Sky Bet League Two following relegation the previous year, which had a natural impact on overall turnover.
Income reduced compared to the previous reporting period, largely due to the club competing in a lower division and therefore receiving a lower level of Premier League solidarity funding. Cup revenues were also lower, with the club exiting both the League Cup and FA Cup at the first-round stage, compared to the previous season which included a run to the Quarter-Finals of the League Cup and four FA Cup matches, including two replays.
Despite operating in a lower division, matchday ticket sales remained relatively resilient, helped by strong support during the closing stages of the campaign as the team secured promotion.
Player wage costs increased during the year as the club strengthened the squad following relegation, bringing in a number of experienced players and increasing overall squad depth. These additions, alongside associated signing and agent costs, raised the overall football expenditure.
The investment demonstrated clear backing from the club’s owners, whose continued financial support enabled the strengthening of the playing squad and ultimately helped deliver promotion back to League One at the first attempt.
Port Vale Chief Executive, Matt Hancock, said: “These accounts reflect the expected financial impact of competing in League Two following relegation the previous season, alongside reduced solidarity funding and fewer cup fixtures compared to the year before.
“Despite that, the club made a clear decision to invest in strengthening the playing squad, with the continued backing of our owners. That support allowed us to add quality and depth to the group, which ultimately helped the team secure promotion back to League One at the first opportunity.
“I’d like to thank our supporters, sponsors and staff for their continued commitment throughout the season. Their backing, particularly towards the end of the campaign, played a huge part in helping us achieve promotion.”
