Shaun Brisley signs one-year contract extension

2 July 2020

Port Vale Football Club are delighted to announce that defender Shaun Brisley has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

Brisley started his career at Macclesfield Town, whom he played for between 2007 and 2012.

He moved on to Peterborough United in February 2012, initially on loan before signing for them permanently in May of that year.

During his time at the Posh he had several loan spells at Scunthorpe United, Northampton Town and Leyton Orient, before signing for Carlisle United on a permanent deal in July 2016.

Brisley then made the move to Notts County in July 2017 before moving to Port Vale in August 2019.

The 30-year old defender has made 384 senior career appearances scoring 17 goals.

He has made 14 appearances for the Valiants so far, with one goal to his name.

“He’s a top professional, he had to be very patient and comes in and works hard every day,” said assistant manager Dave Kevan.

“It’s a testament to his professionalism that when he came into the side after the Swindon game and got that under his belt he was superb for us, keeping Smith out which is no easy feat.”

“He’s experienced and knows the game for a central defender.”

Not only is he aggressive when he needs to be but his distribution is also very good and allows us to play out from the back when we need to.”

“Overall, the type of professional he is makes him a real dependable character and an honest lad that we’re pleased to have at Port Vale.”

Brisley’s new deal keeps him tied to the club until June 2021.
