Last time we met Crawley Town

As the season enters into its final stages, Vale host Crawley Town in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday afternoon, but what happened last time the two sides met?

The last clash between the teams came back on the opening day of the current campaign as Michael Brown's Valiants made the trip to Broadfield Stadium, with goals from Michael Tonge, Antony Kay and Dan Turner sealing a 3-1 win.

It didn't take long for Vale to score their opening goal as Tonge sent a deflected free-kick into the corner with just nine minutes on the clock. Kay then doubled the advantage on 26 minutes after he capitalised on another effective set piece from Tonge, glancing a header home at the near post.

With a two-goal deficit to chase, Harry Kewell's Crawley came out fighting in the second half and they brought themselves back into contention courtesy of Enzio Boldewijn. The winger latched onto a neat pass from Mark Randall before planting a finish beyond Rob Lainton.

As the game wore on and with the hosts continuing to threaten, any nerves were eased with just eight minutes left to play as Turner rounded off the scoring. The teenager had replaced Cristian Montano at half-time and he made his mark by heading a Marcus Harness cross beyond the goalkeeper to secure three points.

You have to go back to March of 2015 to find the last game between the sides at Vale Park, but it was the Red Devils who came out on top on that occasion. Louis Dodds did fire in a brace for the Valiants, but goals from Anthony Wordsworth, Izale McLeod and Richard Wood handed Crawley the victory.
