Vale’s Interim Manager has admitted he was very pleased with how the team played on Saturday, although he believes that it was disappointing to concede the way they did to lose two vital points.

Talking to the press after the match on Saturday, Rob said: “When you’re picking points up like that in a hard fought game it’s always pleasing.

“They came here and put a shift in again like I’ve asked them to and picked a point up.

“They had to work really hard for it, but I’m over the moon and pleased of the performance they put in.

“For me the work rate and effort to get back into defensive positions pleased me the most today.

“We worked on it quite a bit this week, certainly yesterday we touched on it when I got all the players back in.”

Rob felt that the teams ability to defend in a way that led to attacking play was the most pleasing aspect of the teams display, and feels there is a platform to get the team working really well.

He explained: “I thought our discipline in defending especially being able to get in a position where we could intercept passes and force them into making errors was good today, with that we were then able get the ball and play our stuff.

“It was important Louis Dodds and Mark Marshall played a big part for us today, because the way they play creates width, so as soon as we got the ball we wanted them to go high and wide so we could get the full-backs out.

“I thought we could have done that a little bit better first half, but overall with the chances we created it’s been a pleasing day.

“I had to change my team talk at half time, because I had something in my head I wanted to say and then obviously two minutes into injury time we concede a free-kick in a dangerous area and he sticks it in the top corner.

“I’m disappointed with the way we conceded, but overall I‘m not going to grumble too much. I’ve asked them to make slight changes and they’ve taken on board everything I’ve said.”
