The Vale Academy is constantly scouting new players within the grassroots game. As well as using it's own coaches to look at potential new talent, it also calls on the services of 10 regular part-time scouts who work week-in, week-out watching local games featuring youngsters in all age groups ranging from Under-7s to Under-16s.
A recent addition to the Academy scouting network has been two new scouts who act on a voluntary basis. The pair have already recommended a number of players for the Academy to consider.
Mark Roberts and Richard Bateson are dedicated Vale fans and they have both spent many hours watching grassroots games on behalf of the club. Their hard work has now paid off as a number of players they have recommended, have gone on to sign for the Academy.
Gael Bitshilualua is a promising Under-9 prospect first recommended by Mark and Under-10 player Charlie Matthews joins the Academy having been spotted by Richard.
Academy FDP Lead Coach and Head of Recruitment Lee Foyle is delighted to have signed these two new players.
“Our team of scouts put in the hours searching for talented players in all age groups” he said.
“So far this season, we’ve signed 20 promising youngsters as a result of their recommendations.
“However, I want to give special thanks to Mark and Richard who act on a completely voluntary basis, giving up their own time in the search for prospects.
“Both are die-hard Vale supporters and their work on behalf of the Academy is all down to their love of the club.
“It’s great that their efforts have now paid off with the signing of two talented young lads.”
