Vale Keeper Signs For Reds
Port Vale goalkeeper Sam Johnson has joined Alfreton Town on a month-long loan.
The 21-year-old, who has made six appearances so far this season, has put pen to paper on a 28-day deal, keeping him at North Street until 18 December.
The young shot-stopper came through the academy at Vale Park and made his senior debut for the club in 2012.
As a result of Johnson’s move to Alfreton, Ryan Boot has been recalled from his loan at non-league side Newcastle Town in order to provide back up to Chris Neal.
Speaking of Johnson’s switch to the Reds, Vale boss Rob Page said: “He has shown myself, the coaches here and the fans that he is capable of playing League One or League Two football.
“Every time he has gone in, every time we have called upon him he has given a great account of himself but at this moment in time Chris [Neal] is the number one.
“What I don’t want to do is let Sam falter away with regards to his performances, I would rather he went out and played football and have that experience of playing week in, week out.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for him to go out and play games and we’ll reap the reward later on in his development.”
