Prostate Cancer awareness day!

Prostate Cancer awareness day!

Intu Potteries raise awareness this Friday.

In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives. Volunteers from Prostate Cancer UK and staff from the Urology cancer unit at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire will be at intu Potteries Friday 21st March.
Volunteers and medical staff will be available to provide information on Prostate Cancer and answer questions or concerns from members of the public.
Paul Francis, General Manager at intu Potteries added “nowadays, most people are affected directly or indirectly by cancer. We felt strongly about supporting Prostate Cancer UK by providing them with a store unit where visitors could privately discuss any concerns they may have”.
Prostate Cancer UK is the official charity of the Football League. Port Vale FC has teamed up with intu Potteries for this Friday’s event. Boomer, the mascot, and Norman Smurthwaite, the club’s Chairman will be there. Port Vale players are also expected to come to the event.
Joan Walley MP, a keen supporter of the charity will be at intu Potteries on Friday. She commented “When prostate cancer strikes it is not just men that are affected, their families and loved ones are too. Everyone is. 13% of men in the UK will suffer from prostate cancer at some point in their lives, so it is hugely important that we have prominent figures shining a spotlight on this issue and making sure that the public know what signs to look for. That’s why our local football teams can play a huge role in helping to raise awareness of this illness. I know that the North Staffordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group is always looking for others to give a helping hand. So thank you to intu Potteries for organising such an important event and to Port Vale FC, Micky Adams and the players for, once again, showing how a community-minded club can really help not only its supporters but the wider public too.”
The Awareness Day is taking place this Friday by River Island between 10am and 4pm.
