Skipper says Vale must come out fighting
Port Vale appearance this evening at Ashton Gate – assuming he is selected of course, but it is something the Vale skipper wasn’t aware of until it was pointed out to him in yesterday’s press conference.thDoug Loft will start his 200
The Vale midfielder is more concerned in the next game than what has happened in the past and for now that means one thing only – the game against Bristol City tonight.
Vale haven’t won a league match away from home since their two-nil win against Walsall back in November, the game in which Sam Johnson made his league debut.
Loft feels Vale ought to have done better away from Vale Park, having come close on several occasions, only to let themselves down.
He said: We have had our chances, like at Coventry, but we conceded late, but hopefully against Bristol City we can put that right.
“We haven’t performed as well as we should have away from home. We have played well at home this year and we need to take that away with us.
“We are expecting a hard game against Bristol City. I don’t really see them as relegation candidates to be honest with you and I think they have got a good team.
“It is a big game for both clubs, as every game is. We know they will come out fighting and we have got to do exactly the same.
“We have established ourselves in this league this year and if we can kick on from it and push for the play-offs next season - that is what I see as an achievement.
“We have got a lot of good young players here and if we can keep them for next season I think we will do well.”
