Consistency is key for Lines

Vale go in search of back-to-back wins

Midfielder Chris Lines has hailed the Vale squad’s spirit after a battling second-half display helped them come from behind to beat Coventry City 3-2.

Lines, who was reinstated into the starting line-up believes the Valiants can now build on the performance going into Saturday’s trip to Prenton Park.

“For us to get a result against them after going behind was good to see because it shows that the team spirit and the togetherness and it shows the quality we’ve got to get three goals against such a good team.

“The boys showed that on Saturday, it is a couple times at home that we’ve showed that.

We’ve got to take that into every game and try and build up some consistency,” he said.

The buzzword around Vale Park at the moment is consistency – Lines explains how a string on consistent performances can see a side in SkyBet League head to the upper reaches of the table.

“For me, playing in this league for many years now I know that’s one of the most important things – to be consistent.

“You find yourself picking up two or three wins back-to-back, you soon find yourself shooting up the table, he explained.

“So that is something we need to try and repeat every week, not just once.”

Vale will be cautious though, away trips to Colchester United and Oldham Athletic have ended in defeat and Lines believes Vale need to up their game for teams in the lower half of the table as well as for the more fancied names of SkyBet League 1.

“It’s has happened a few times this season, we’ve beaten a better team then in the next game against maybe not such a fancied team we’ve gone and lost.

“We need to get a good week’s training and make sure on Saturday we’re not taking anything for granted and we produce the same work-rate and the same effort as we did against Coventry,” Lines added.

Lines and the squad have set themselves the target of back-to-back wins in a bid to nail some consistency to the 2013/14 mast.

Lines and the rest of the Vale squad will be focusing on this week on trying to make that happen.

“As a professional you have to make sure you’re preparing right, it starts now from training today until Friday when we’ll be focusing on the game.

“If we do that hopefully we can get back-to-back wins and that’ll see us shoot up the table.”
