Gaffer stresses the importance of the Ireland trip

Micky Adams has been pleased with how the pre-season has gone up to now and sees the trip to Ireland as a vital piece of team building, which he hopes will pull everybody together as a  unit.

Speaking after the friendly against Newcastle, the Vale boss said: “We’ve got a decent squad and everybody is working as hard as they possibly can to get as fit as they possibly can for the start of the season.

“We’re not there yet, we’ve got a fair way to go in terms of fitness, but at the moment the boys are putting the miles in.

“It’s a bit of a slog at the minute, but they’ve got through it and we’ve had another comfortable win here today.

“We go to Ireland now and these sorts of trips are valuable exercises. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been on tours before that have been disasters.

“I have also been on tours that set your team up in terms of team spirit for the season ahead.

“Everybody gels together and everybody has got a nice feeling for each other, we get to know each other, but first and foremost it’s a fitness exercise.

“We’ve got a time now where we can keep them busy for a week without them going home to their families.

“We will use that time wisely, we will get on the training ground and work at the things we are short of at the moment.”
