Adams Feels It's a Work in Progress

After Vale’s 1-1 draw against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park, Micky Adams spoke of his disappointment at drawing the game. He feels they are a work in progress and a point is better than nothing.

However, he felt that the performance was nowhere near what the team achieved during their 3-1 win against Doncaster Rovers last Saturday.

Micky said: “To some degree I thought we got out of jail there. I think after their defeat on Saturday they came out all guns blazing and really got after us.

“I think we can do better; we were nowhere near the standard we set on Saturday, but having said that we’ve ground out a point.

“I think fatigue could have been an issue, but we picked the same side, which was a no brainer for me after Saturdays result.

“They gave us very little time on the ball. I thought we went back to front too easily, but I’m pleased to get a four points on the road over two games.

“We didn’t trust each other with the ball in the first half, and that was the key for me.

“It’s progress from us, I just said to the boys that 12 months ago we’d have crumbled and got beat.

“We had a couple of near misses throughout the game, we hit the bar, but did we really do enough to win the game? In the final third perhaps no and I think individually we weren’t as good as we were on Saturday.”

Micky feels that with a number of new faces in the squad they take time to bond fully, but being unbeaten so far is a great return for the squad.

He continued: “In some respects we are a work in progress, because we have eight new faces in the squad and we have Byron Moore to add to it as well.

“I feel Byron will add a little bit more quality to the team when he gets back.

“We can’t be too downbeat, we’ve had four games now, we’re in all competitions and we’re undefeated.

“What we need to do is learn our lessons from today and maybe do what Oldham did to us tonight and that’s to come out all guns blazing against Notts County, looking for that first home win in the League.”
