Cristian Montano full of confidence after Neil Aspin's show of belief in him

Port Vale defender Cristian Montano has said he's "enjoying his football" at the moment, as the Vale lead into arguably the biggest weekend of their season.

Montano has always admitted his favoured position is on the left wing, but say's he's more than happy to carry on playing in his new defensive role.

The defender's performances as of late have gained the plaudits from his manager Neil Aspin, who has consistently picked Monty as a starter week in week out, and Montano is happy with just playing football.

"I'm enjoying my football, I've been given a lot of freedom going forward as much I can as well which is nice because I'm a very attacking player.

"I've also got to focus on my defending which I've been doing so far. At the start I wasn't really comfortable, because I've never really played at left back before.

"Obviously now I've played a few games there I'm understanding the role a bit better. The players have been helping me a lot, they speak to me a lot. Smudge on my side and Pugh moving into centre midfield he's been helping me as well with the talking they do, so I'm enjoying it really."

Cristian joined the Valiants in the summer after being released from Bristol Rovers and he admits he struggled to hit the ground running when he joined.

Despite the shaky start to life in Burslem, Montano has kept his head down and worked hard to regain his position in his team and become a reliable member of the squad.

With his new position and the consistent starts, Monty is glad he is able to help the team out.

"It was a hard start for me as a player at Port Vale but I got back into the team. I was performing one game and wasn't in the other so I was a bit inconsistent.

"I'm enjoying it now because I've found a bit of form in me and as well I'm helping the team playing left back as well which is something that we didn't have before but the gaffer tried a few players at left back.

"To be fair to Pughey he did really well but then the gaffer wanted to play him centre midfield and then he asked if I could play left back. I managed to do well for him and then he found a bit of belief in me and it gave me the confidence to go forward and I'm enjoying it."
