Neil Aspin says the team have to do better to justify the support

Manager Neil Aspin says he is desperate to give the fans better than what they've had to see this season after Saturday's defeat against Carlisle.

After Dior Angus netted his first goal for the club to put the Vale in front in the first half, the second proved to be a different story as Carlisle fought back to take all three points.

The gaffer admitted after the game it was a poor performance from his side and they were second best to everything, and is adamant the team have to improve their performances for the fans.

"The support has been tremendous. I don't think we justified that support, I certainly didn't feel like going out because I was really disappointed with what I saw.

"I do appreciate the support, it's very humbling to know people want you to sign autographs and get their picture taken with me.

"I feel responsible, I am responsible, and I have to give them something better on the pitch to support.

"I want to do better, the team must do better, I want to justify the support. We've got to give them better than what they've seen and what they've had over the last couple of years."

With the season coming to a close after our final game at Cambridge, Neil Aspin admitted work for next season had already begun as soon as the clubs safety had been secured at Mansfield.

The boss has said it won't be easy bringing in players over the summer, however he's looking for players who show the right attitude and commitment, but the quality has to be better too.

For the gaffer, the defeat to Carlisle enhanced his thoughts that his side are short in a lot of departments.

"There's not question about it, we need to make changes in a lot of departments.

"Hopefully you'll be talking to me next season and we'll have a much better season. Like I've said, I'm not a great salesmen in terms of saying this and that. You can't guarantee anything, but there will be a lot of hard work put in, and it won't be through a lack of trying."
