Michael Brown On Transfer Market

Michael Brown On Transfer Market

With Tom Pope already having returned to Vale Park, Michael Brown insists that the recruitment drive is continuing as Vale prepare for the new League Two campaign.

After the club issued a retained list which saw players departing, the manager knows he has a lot of work to do in the transfer market.

He said: "We have been on with players, ins and outs and it is going to be like that now right up until that summer window closes at the end of August.

"We are in every day, we are working hard and speaking to players, agents and managers on holiday. Some of the deals are going to be in July and we have to be mindful of that."

Brown wants to ensure his team are capable of competing on all fronts next season, but he is not targeting a specific number of new recruitments heading into the 2017/18 campaign.

He said: "I don't know number wise, we will see which players are going to stay with us. Are any of the younger players going to step forward in pre-season so you don't need to target others?

"If there is good players available within budget then we are trying to sign them."

Contract talks are ongoing with a number of players who featured last season, but Brown is keeping his options open as he knows anything can happen in football.

He said: "This is football, there are always ins and outs. We know the turnaround now and this job is quite big, but we are hoping to improve and we are trying to do that.

"If it means players going out at the same time then we have to deal with that."
