Port Vale suffered defeat for the first time at home this season, as they were on the wrong end of the 2-0 scoreline against Coventry City.
Vale were looking to add to last week’s victory at home against Millwall, which saw Alex Jones, Martin Paterson and Remie Streete all put the ball in the back of the Lions’ net in their 3-1 win.
At right back on the day was Ben Purkiss and he was unable to secure a clean sheet and keep Vale’s home record going for another game.
Purkiss spoke exclusively to Valiant PlayerHD after the final whistle about the game and the pivotal points within.
“It was a disappointing result.
“I think we came into the game full of confidence you know, we are playing well at home and picking up points and results have warranted.”
Purkiss admitted that the squad knew that they were in for a tough game on Saturday as the side did extensive research into Coventry City’s play style and goals from previous matches.
“Today we knew it was going to be a tricky game.
“We had them watched, we’d done a lot of background on how they like to play, what they like to do and we felt they were in a false position so we knew we were going to face a tough challenge.”
Purkiss also admitted that it was difficult to get back into the game after going a goal down before half time.
“We gave away a sloppy goal and gave ourselves an uphill battle and we struggled a little bit.”
