What do we know about Maidenhead United?

A few facts about our opponents in the Emirates FA Cup, Maidenhead United

So, we know who we will be facing in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup after Vale were the third ball to be pulled out of the hat last night.

It will be the first time ever the two sides will have met, but what else do we know about the club due to visit Vale Park in just under two weeks’ time?

Maidenhead United ply their trade in the National League South.

Nickname: The Magpies

Founded: 1870

Moved to their current Ground, York Road, in 1871

York Road had previously been used as a cricket ground.

York Road is now officially acknowledged by the Football Association as the "oldest senior football ground continuously used by the same club", eclipsing Northwich Victoria's old claim by several years.

Maidenhead were one of the original fifteen entrants in the FA Cup competition back in the 1871-72 season.

In the 1872-72 season Maidenhead reached the last four of the FA Cup, eventually going out after losing to Oxford University.

In each of the following two seasons Maidenhead reached the quarter-finals of what became the best know domestic cup competition in the whole world.

They are currently managed by former West Ham and England midfielder Alan Devonshire, who was an FA Cup winner with the Hammers back in 1980.

Devonshire began his second spell as manager of Maidenhead in May 2015, shortly after leaving Braintree Town.
