Former Vale player passes away

Port Vale Football Club is sorry to hear about the passing of former player Barry Hancock, who died at his home on Tuesday, aged 74.

Barry was a regular visitor to Vale Park and used to help out with the distribution of match day programmes on a regular basis.

Born in Hanley in December 1938, Barry started to support the club and became a programme seller, before joining Vale as an amateur in 1954 and going on to sign as a professional in 1957.

Released at the end of the 1963-64 season, he went on to play for Crewe Alexander and then Stafford Rangers, but continued to watch the Vale after he finished playing.

Details of Barry’s funeral have not yet been announced.
