Just another game

Micky want three points, like he does every week

Vale boss Micky Adams insists tomorrow’s game at Bramall Lane is just another game as Vale go in search of three points against Sheffield United.

The only thing he is concerned with right now is getting results at his current club and he is doing all he can to see Vale do well in League One.

He said: I am a Port Vale man now and all I am interested in is getting a result for Port Vale. It wouldn’t matter who we were playing on Saturday.

“We put in a great shift against Peterborough and we were very unlucky not to get some sort of result against them, but my focus is purely on Port Vale – I haven’t got time to worry about Sheffield United.

“My time at Bramall Lane is well documented now – I am great believer in looking forward and not back – people will have to buy the book to get my views.

“It obviously didn’t go as well as I thought it would, I knew it was a difficult challenge but I am already on record as saying I wasn’t given enough time.”

As for going back to Bramall Lane, the Vale manager doesn’t view it any differently than any other game.

He said: “It’s just another game as far as I am concerned – other people place more importance on it than myself – people in the press want me to say things that might bite me on the backside on Saturday.

“All I can say and will say is that I want a win on Saturday and I want a win for Port Vale, it’s supporters, it’s players and myself.

“I have fond memories of the place, but I can’t say it enough, I want to get three points for my players, our supporters, and myself and I don’t care who we are playing on Saturday, I just want to get back on a winning track if we can.”

The Blades are yet to make a managerial appointment, despite all the talk in the press about Nigel Clough, but the Vale boss knows he can expect a tough encounter if Chris Morgan is in charge.

Adams continued: “They played a system and a group of players on Sunday against Coventry and at half time it looked a poor team and a poor decision – a poor team that they had picked.

“But they got a goal, they made a couple of substitutions and it changed the course of the game and they looked a lot better for it.

The one difficult thing that we will have on Saturday is we won’t know their team, but with Chris Morgan in charge, if he is still in charge, I am sure he will want to do well.

“He has had one go at being a caretaker manager before so he understands the role and the responsibilities of it – but what I can’t do is second-guess what his team is going to be.”
