Hugill will remember his first league goal, but wants lots more
Jordan Hugill describes the day when he scores his first ever league goal as ‘perfect’ – and few would disagree with him after watching him keep his composure to net Vale’s third goals on Saturday.
Hugill said: “It was just a perfect day really and just to top it off with a goal my mum and dad and my sister were there so it put a smile on their faces as well as mine, so I was just buzzing.
“It’s been a long time coming really – I have worked so hard for it and just to get that first goal is great.
“Obviously there is still a lot of work to be done on my game and I am going to be working hard at that, but it’s nice to get off the mark.
and as I said, I am going to be working hard and hopefully getting more of them. “It’s what a striker wants to be doing, he wants to be scoring goals every week and it’s just that first goal really and then you get settled
“Each of the other strikers here have got their own good qualities and you tend to work well with others, but it is just a matter of getting used to who you are working with.
“Lee Hughes has got bags of experience which id great to learn off in training and around the club, then there is Tom Pope – you don’t get thirty-odd goals last season for no reason.
“It is something you have got to take on board and wait for the opportunity and take everything you can from each different player.
“Lee is quality and he has still got everything, he can finish and he is someone to look up to. i want to play like him, I want to score goals like he scores goals.
“Obviously the target is to keep my place now but as I have said, there’s still a lot of work to be done on my game and obviously I will be working hard at it and looking forward to what is to come.”
