npower League 2 Manager of the Month

September Nominations

With two months completed the season is beginning to take shape and with September now over, it is time to reward the month’s standout performers, both in the dugout and on the pitch.

October 2012, with the final decision being made by two separate Football League judging panels.thFootball League sponsors npower are proud to reveal the nominations for both the npower League 2 Manager and Player of the Month Awards for September. The winners will be announced on Friday 12

The Manager of the Month award is decided by former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers Association Deputy CEO Olaf Dixon and npower Sponsorship Manager Emma Collins. The Player of the Month panel sees Emma Collins joined by Wolves legend Don Goodman, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and The Football League’s Head of Communications, John Nagle.

The nominations for the npower League 2 Manager of the Month Award for September are:

Micky Adams (Port Vale)

13 points from a possible 18 ensured that Mickey Adams’ Port Vale side kept within touching distance of early pace-setters Gillingham at the top of npower League 2. Despite losing to The Gills this month, The Valiants scored 16 goals in September and are clearly an attacking force to be reckoned with this season.

John Coleman (Rochdale)

One of five teams to gain 13 points in September, John Coleman has completely reversed the fortunes of Rochdale, who finished August with just two points. As well as propelling Rochdale into a play-off position, the run also saw The Dale inflict a first league defeat on league leaders Gillingham.

Paul Sturrock (Southend United)

place and just one point outside of the play-off positions.thWith only one point collected in August, Paul Sturrock’s Southend United had some work to do in September and with four wins, a draw and just the one loss have transformed their fortunes. With 13 points collected in the month, Southend ended up in a vastly improved 11

The nominations for the npower League 2 Player of the Month Award for September are:

Britt Assombalonga (Southend United) – striker

The 19-year-old loanee from Watford provided a goalscoring spark for Southend with five goals in six September games. Hard-working and deceptively strong for one so slight, his sure touch in front of goal was seen with a superb equaliser at Plymouth Argyle.

Tom Pope (Port Vale) – striker

Seven goals in a September in which the lanky forward’s positional instincts were only matched by the calmness of his finishing. His haul included four in a 6-2 victory over his former club Rotherham United and another two in the 5-2 win at Fleetwood Town.

Andrew Tutte (Rochdale) – midfielder

Rochdale’s stand-in captain at the age of just 22, he drove his side on to 13 points from 18 in the month. His attacking flair and endeavour rubbed off on his teammates and he scored the opening goal himself in the 2-1 win at league leaders Gillingham.
