ACCRINGTON PRE-MATCH CHAT

A look ahead to Vale's opening away fixture

Vale travel to Lancashire for tonight’s League Two fixture at the Crown Ground, where they take on Accrington Stanley in their first away game of the new season.

Micky Adams will be hoping his side can continue to impress following their 3-0 home win over Barnet on Saturday afternoon.

Accrington is a difficult place to go, though Vale managed a 2-2 draw there last season and will go there in a confident mood this evening.

Two seasons ago Vale seemed to hit rock bottom when a 3-0 defeat saw manager Jim Gannon leave the club, along with Exodus Geohaghon, with Vale supporters in a non-forgiving mood.

Despite the club being in administration, the mood in the camp seems to have been lifted as the team has showed signs of promise and there is likely to be a large following from the Potteries tonight.

In the games played between the two sides since Accrington returned to the Football League – eight league games and a cup match -  Vale have won four, Accrington three and two have ended in draws.

Vale have no fresh injury problems after Saturday. Boss Micky Adams said: “We’re in good shape. Rob Taylor has had another full week and he’s not too far away now.

“Gareth Owen is back in training so he will obviously come back into the squad, so other than Lewis Haldane, everybody is fit and raring to go.”
