The 2024/25 season has been a landmark campaign for Port Vale Women, marking another chapter of impressive growth and success in the team’s journey.
Following an outstanding unbeaten season in 2023/24, which saw us clinch promotion to the West Midlands Regional Premier Division, the team entered this year facing a new level of competition. Competing in Tier 5 of the women’s football pyramid – just one step below the National League – our Women’s team have quickly shown they belong at this level and beyond.
Our debut season in the division has been hugely positive, with the team sitting fourth in the table with just five games to go at the time of writing. Regardless of the final standings, it’s been a year full of memorable moments and encouraging performances that reflect the team’s rise.
One of the standout highlights of the campaign was making history in the Women’s FA Cup. For the first time ever, Port Vale Women reached the First Round Proper, an achievement that not only underlines the team’s quality but also raises our profile nationally. It was a proud moment for everyone involved with the club and a sign of just how far the women's side has come in such a short space of time.
Another significant milestone was reached more recently in the Challenge Vase, where we battled all the way to the Final. Despite a heartbreaking defeat on penalties to local rivals Stoke City, the team's performance throughout the competition demonstrated their growing strength and character. Narrowly missing out on silverware against a strong opponent only highlights the progress that’s been made.
The success of the women's team has been built on strong foundations and club values of hard work, ambition and the support from across the football club.
Jack Day, Head of Community Football, praised the backing the team has received:
"The journey we’ve been on this season has been fantastic to watch and be a part of; it’s a real testament to the hard work of the players and coaching staff. I think it’s also a reflection of the wider support we’ve had from across the club. Everyone has been right behind the team, providing the backing and resources needed to help them thrive. There’s a real belief at Vale that women’s football is a big part of our future, and we’re excited to see just how far this team can go."
With a strong finish to the league campaign still in sight, and foundations being laid for an even stronger 2025/26 season, the future is bright. There’s a real sense of momentum building, and with continued ambition and support, there’s every confidence that even greater achievements are just around the corner.
