Darren Moore was joined by defender Jesse Debrah in Thursday's pre-match press conference, looking ahead to the visit of Northampton Town on Saturday.
Jesse spoke about the mood around the place and the fans
“Definitely (a good mood). The fans have always supported us; it’s not easy when we concede a goal or go a goal down. There’s always going to be frustration, that comes with any football club.”
Does seeing chances being taken give you confidence as a defender?
“Oh, definitely. We defend as a team and attack as a team. The new signings have been amazing and that takes some pressure off us.
“Having goal scorers in your team is always a big bonus.”
The defender spoke about the impact of Devante Cole
“I could speak about Coley all day. He’s a great guy off the field. He kept himself to himself during the first few weeks but he’s actually quite funny.”
“He’s been a great signing and will demand more from himself.”
Jesse spoke about playing in the middle of a back three
“Yeah, it's different. When you’re in the middle, you’re the last man before the goalkeeper.
“I see myself as a leader in the dressing room, and I enjoy commanding the defence when I’m in the middle.
“I just want to play football, if the gaffer asked me to play upfront I would do”
Debrah gave his thoughts regarding the Northampton fixture
“There’s no guarantee of winning any game in this league, just look at the Cardiff result the other night.
“Home form is important; no one wants to come to Vale Park. People have said to me after games that the pitch is massive, and the fans are loud.”
The Gaffer spoke about taking the last few wins into the home form
“Yeah, it's really crucial, it’s all about the next game. It’s a really special time to play at Vale Park.
“The last time we played here, we came away with a late win.”
Darren spoke about the difference between home and away games
“It’s difficult to compare home and away games. The only thing that really stays the same is the green grass.
“All we can do is prepare the best we can. When you’re at home, the away team will likely come at you differently or set up tactically differently.”
The importance of always keeping a level head
“Credit to the boys, even in the first five games, the atmosphere in here was spot on.
“The temperature stayed the same, and it actually inspired me to keep going. There’s a great belief in the great to who they are as players.
“We take a lot of pride in the players we bring into the football club.”
The boss spoke about seeing the fruits of squad rotation
“It’s something we spoke about in the summer, coming into this league. It’s a real top top league.
“We here have got a 46 league game season and 3 cup competitions, and we needed a squad to compete.
“Having a set group of eleven players doesn’t work anymore; the game has completely changed.”
