We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Micky Moore in the role of Sporting Director.
Moore brings significant experience across the professional game, having held senior football and recruitment roles with Cheltenham Town and Shrewsbury Town, as well as working within the recruitment department at Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City.
His most notable work came during a successful four-and-a-half-year spell with Cheltenham, where he became Director of Football after initially joining the club in a recruitment capacity.
During Moore’s time at Whaddon Road, Cheltenham secured promotion from League Two as champions in 2020/21 before achieving their highest-ever league finish the following season in League One.
As outlined by Chief Executive Matt Hancock in his recent letter to supporters, the Sporting Director will have overall responsibility for the football department.
Moore will identify areas where the club can improve and lead that work, while overseeing the club's approach to recruitment, scouting, player development and the wider football department.
Speaking following his appointment, Moore said: “I can't wait to get going. Vale are a big club with big potential and I know from my many visits to Vale Park just how passionate the fans are here. I've followed from afar for some time now and seen the journey the club has been on since Carol and Kevin took over.
"I went in at Cheltenham when they were in a similar position; we had two seasons in League Two, finishing fourth and winning the title, so I know the challenge ahead of us and it's one I'm excited by.
"I'm really looking forward to meeting the staff, players and everyone connected with the club."
Matt Hancock added: “Micky brings a huge amount of football experience to the club and we’re delighted to welcome him to Vale Park.
“We were clear that the Sporting Director needed to have the freedom to look properly at the whole football operation, and Micky will have that autonomy. His job is to assess where we are, identify where we can improve and lead the development of a football operation that is consistent and sustainable.
“Micky has the experience and knowledge to lead that work and I’m really looking forward to working with him and seeing him get started.”
Moore’s first interview will be available via PVTV later this week.
