The Valiants are held to a 0-0 draw with Northampton Town at Vale Park as they remain unbeaten in their last four league games.
The Valiants welcomed Northampton Town to Vale Park, looking to make it four league wins in a row. It was a stop-start game at Vale Park with chances seeming hard to come by for both sides.
The best chance of the game came seconds before the full-time whistle as Ruari Paton looked destined to score but was denied by Ross Fitzsimons.
Darren Moore kept the same starting eleven following the 2-0 win away at Barnsley last time out. Jayden Stockley returned to the matchday squad in the league for the first time since his injury.
Following their 2-0 win against Bolton last weekend, Kevin Nolan made just the one change to his lineup. Nesta Guiness-Walker came into the side, replacing Joe Wormleighton.
The visitors got the game underway at a blustery Vale Park, but neither team could fashion a chance in the opening fifteen minutes, with the wind playing a big part.
Vale’s first shot on target in the game came just past the twenty-minute mark. The Valiants broke down the left and eventually Headley was able to get an effort away. However, his tame effort was gathered by Fitzsimons.
The Cobblers had their first real attempt of what was a quiet first half in Burslem with five minutes to play. A in-swinging corner was met by McGeehan, whose close-range header was brilliantly saved by Gauci.
The second half started with a bit more life to it and Gauci was called into action straight away. A half-volley attempt from Taylor was smartly parried away by the Aussie keeper.
Vale had a huge chance to open the scoring with an hour on the clock. A long ball was misjudged by Fitzsimons. However, the angle was against Brown, as he attempted a cutback to Croasdale, which was intercepted by a Town defender.
Guinness-Walker had a great opportunity for the visitors with just over fifteen minutes to play at Vale Park. A looping ball into the box found Guiness-Walker at the back post, who hit the ball first time, but his effort could only find the side netting.
With seconds left on the clock, Paton had a golden opportunity to snatch all three points. A ball across the box from Hall was gathered by Paton, who moved the ball brilliantly onto his right foot and looked certain to score. However, Paton’s low effort was well saved by Fitzsimons, and the points were shared.
