Match Report | Port Vale 0-0 Huddersfield Town

HT

The points are shared at Vale Park as the Valiants are held by Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

In a game with few chances, both sides will feel they could’ve come away from the match with all three points, but neither team could make their chances count as the game finished 0-0.

Jon Brady made four changes following the midweek defeat at home against Bradford City. Jaheim Headley, Liam Gordon, Jordan Shipley and Martin Sherif came into the side, replacing Kyle John, Connor Hall, George Hall, and Andre Gray. Funso Ojo captained the side in the absence of Kyle John.

The visitors got the game underway at a sunny Vale Park and had the first real opportunity of the game just shy of the twenty-minute mark. Marcus Harness broke into the penalty box and got a shot away, which seemed destined to find the net, but the retreating Liam Gordon did brilliantly to clear the ball off the line.

With half time stoppage time well underway, Huddersfield came close once more to finding the opening goal. A corner into the box was met by the head of Josh Feeney; however, his effort cannoned off the crossbar and Joe Gauci was able to pounce on the rebound.

Shortly after, the Valiants had their own half-chance to score. Following a marauding run from Funso Ojo, Ben Waine had the ball just outside the penalty area and got a shot away, but this was comfortably saved by Lee Nicholls.

Vale started the second half strongly and came close to taking the lead just two minutes into the restart. Jordan Shipley played a delicate through ball into the path of Jahiem Headley before the left-back got a shot on goal that was well saved by Lee Nicholls.

The Terriers had a golden chance to put themselves in front just shy of the hour mark in Burslem. Following a scrappy bit of play in the Vale penalty box, the ball fell kindly to Ryan Hardie, who hit a first-time effort that flew into the Bycars Stand.

With just under five minutes of the ninety to play, Huddersfield tested the gloves of Joe Gauci. Following a corner into the Vale box, the ball fell to the feet of Bobby Wales. The substitute hit a low effort towards the goal that was superbly saved by Joe Gauci, diving down to his right-hand side.

Following four minutes of additional time, the referee brought the game to a close, and both sides had to settle for a point.
