Match Preview | York City (A)

JB

The Valiants head into this fixture looking to extend our unbeaten run to four consecutive league games as we look to take on York City at the LNER Community Stadium this Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.

Last time out, Keyrol Figueroa’s first Port Vale goal ensured that we took a point from our away trip to Gillingham. That was following a first-half penalty, dispatched by hosts, despite Marco Maroši diving in the right direction.

The Opposition

Saturday’s hosts are newly-promoted York City, who sit sixth in the table. After eleven games, the Minstermen have walked away with four wins, five draws and three losses.

York enter the game off the back of their third consecutive 1-1 draw, the most recent of which being against eleventh-placed Accrington Stanley. In that match, York scored a ninetieth-minute equaliser to claim a point at home, with Ollie Pearce getting his name on the scoresheet.

York City’s Last Five

Newport 1-1 York City
York City 1-1 Northampton

Opposition Dugout

54-year-old Scott Lindsey has been the head coach of York City since June of this year.

Lindsey had a widely varied career as a player, having spent time at 18 clubs across the span of 24 years. His managerial days started out with a short stint in the caretaker role at Lincoln City in 2010 before taking a twelve-year hiatus from management until he found himself at Swindon Town.

Lindsey’s longest and most successful stint came at Crawley Town between January 2023 and September 2024, where he guided the Red Devils to promotion into League One through the Play-Offs in 2024, beating Crewe Alexandra 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.

He then left Crawley in September of that year in favour of MK Dons, where he was dismissed just 5 months later after going on a run of 11 losses in 16 matches. Lindsey then made a return to Crawley; however, he was relieved of his position following a 10-match winless run in March 2026.

Scott took over York in June of this year, where he has the side currently sitting in 6th place and has the joint-third most potent attack in the division.

Fixture Flashback

York City 0-2 Port Vale | March 2013

Goals from both Jennison Myrie-Williams and Lee Hughes were enough to claim all three points on the road in our promotion-winning campaign under Micky Adams back in early 2013.
