The Valiants are back on the road this Tuesday evening as we make the trip to the Lamex Stadium to take on Stevenage in Sky Bet League One action.
Jon Brady’s side come into Tuesday's clash off the back of exiting the Vertu Trophy in the Quarter-Final stage. Despite making a positive start to the game, Vale were punished by a clinical Stockport side and came away from Vale Park with a defeat.
Post Stockport Thoughts
Here’s what the boss had to say about Tuesday's result:
“First half again, it seems like the scenario here is that when we concede our first shot on target, they score.”
“I had some strong words with them (the players) in their because to crumble like we did, it’s way too easy.”
About Stevenage
The Boro have been in League One since 2023, following their promotion from League Two in the previous season. They were unfortunate not to achieve a Play-Off spot in their first season in League One, finishing five points behind sixth place.
Stevenage made a perfect start to their season, winning all four of their opening games, and continuing with the same consistency to place themselves in 9th place, just four points outside the Play-Offs.
The hosts come into this midweek game following a narrow 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town thanks to Carl Piergianni’s late winner.
The Opposition Dugout
Alex Revell is the man in charge of Stevenage after being appointed permanent manager in May 2024, following a stint as caretaker manager at the club. Alex has managed 93 games so far, winning 35 of those.
This is the 42-year-old Englishman’s first managerial job after his eighteen-year playing career came to an end in 2020. Revell started his playing career with Cambridge United’s youth system before making the move to the EFL with Southend United.
The former striker would go on to play for ten different clubs throughout England’s top four leagues, making 568 appearances whilst scoring 115 goals.
Player to Watch
A player for Vale fans to be aware of is experienced striker Jamie Reid. Jamie has been one of Stevenage’s most influential players this season, scoring nine goals and contributing with two assists.
Reid scored twice in three minutes when Stevenage visited Vale Park in August to secure his side the points.
Fixture Throwback
Stevenage 0-1 Port Vale, 11th January 2020
Vale don’t have a brilliant record at the Lamex Stadium, only winning in one of their last nine visits. Vale legend Tom Pope found the net with only minutes remaining in the game to take all three points.
Both goalkeepers were forced into smart saves throughout the game, but the deciding moment arrived when Tom Conlon was dragged over in the penalty box after pinching the ball from the defender. Vale’s number nine stepped up to take the penalty and slammed it home in front of the travelling Vale supporters.
