Match Report | Bristol Rovers 3-0 Port Vale

3 October 2023

Ten man Vale fall to defeat in Bristol this evening.

The hosts had the first chance on 12 minutes through forward Chris Martin but his header from inside the area was tame and was easily claimed by Connor Ripley.

The Valiants answered back two minutes later with a chance of their own. Good work between Tom Sang and Lewis Cass on the right before the latter put the ball in towards Ben Garrity but his strike went wide of the box.

Just before the 20 minute mark Aaron Collins came close to giving Rovers the lead from a free kick on the left-hand side. He whipped the ball towards the back post but a big hand from the Vale number one palmed it away and out for a corner.

The home side came again on 24 minutes when Jevani Brown found space on the edge of the area but his shot soared over the bar.

Rovers did however take the lead a minute later. Luke McCormick escpaed his marker at the back post as the ball was swung in from the right and he tapped home to put the Gas ahead.

The game changed dramatically on 38 minutes as Jesse Debrah was given a second yellow card. The defender had only made two fouls in the early stages of the game, but referee Benjamin Speedie still deemed them both as bookable offences.

The hosts made it two in first half stoppage time when a low driven ball from the left flank by Collins was met by Jack Hunt who doubled the lead for Rovers.

After a quiet start to the second half, the hosts looked to add to their lead on 63 minutes. Harvey Vale took aim following a corner, but his effort was well kept out by Ripley.

Substitute James Wilson came into action on 77 minutes. A lovely ball from Tom Sang picked out our 29 in the area but his effort on goal was well saved by Matt Cox.

Conor Grant tried his luck three minutes later with an effort from inside the area, but it was right down the throat of Matt Cox.

The hosts made sure of the points on 85 minutes when Brown hit a wonderful strike from around 25-yards which flew over Ripley into the back of Vale’s net.
