David Worrall to leave Vale Park

18 May 2023

Port Vale Football Club can confirm that David Worrall will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract.

Negotiations were opened with David and his representatives but despite lengthy conversations, the midfielder will continue his career away from Vale Park.

Worrall joined us in August 2017 from then Championship side Millwall and has made 248 appearances in all competitions for the Valiants, finding the back of the net on 22 occasions and playing provider 48 times.

During his time here, Wozza has been an important player to have in the dressing room and has helped those around him to develop and understand the game and we will forever be grateful for the support and advice he has given his team members along the way.

He played a pivotal role in our 2021/22 promotion campaign and produced one of his many moments of brilliance with his assist of Mal Benning’s goal in the Play-Off Final.

We wish David and his family all the best for the future and would like to place on record our thanks for the service and commitment he has shown to Port Vale Football Club.

Speaking to us about the support he has received from the stands, Wozza said: "Thank you for everything you've done for me and my family, We've made memories together that I'll never forget and you've always backed me.

"To all the staff and the players that I've played with over the years, thank you. You've made my time at this football club unbelievable and I'll miss everyone and I will miss this football club.

"I've made it clear what this club means to me and what it's done for me, but all good things have to come to an end."

Director of Football David Flitcroft said: "The board would like to thank David for the time and commitment he has shown to Port Vale Football Club during the six seasons he has spent here.

"I first came across Wozza when he was a young player at Bury. I witnessed a player who had so much energy, enthusiasm and passion for the game, which has stayed with him throughout his career.

"He still displays that every day and for every club he has represented, he has been a credit to his family and to the Port Vale family.

"He had a huge impact on our promotion season which we will be forever grateful for and a season I always look back on with great pride.

"David was offered a one-year contract extension to stay at the club but has chosen to leave due to the offer of a 2-year deal elsewhere which would offer more security and would see him contracted until the age of 34.

"He leaves with the good wishes of myself and everybody at Vale Park. He and his family will always be welcome at the club."
