  • David Worrall, Will Forrester, Ben Garrity and Nathan Smith nominated

With seven fixtures condensed into 21 days, February was a busy month for the Valiants, with four of those matches came against sides in the top nine of the division.

Will Forrester scored the only goal of the game as the Vale secured a 1-0 win against Exeter City midway through the month, while David Worrall scored the equaliser as Darrell Clarke’s side were held by Accrington Stanley.

Single goal defeats to Shrewsbury Town, Barnsley, Morecambe and Bolton Wanderers were frustrating for the Valiants, whose performances no doubt merited more in a month that commenced with a 3-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.

The Nominees

David Worrall

Winger David Worrall started in six of the Vale’s seven League One matches in February, making one substitute appearance at Shrewsbury Town too.

Notably, Worrall scored the Vale’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley before providing the assist for Nathan Smith to score against Barnsley.

Will Forrester

Young defender Will Forrester featured in six of the seven games Darrell Clarke’s side played this month, scoring his first goal for the club in the 1-0 win against Exeter City.

Impressing on the right of a back three, the 21-year-old is establishing himself in the Vale’s starting XI.

Ben Garrity

Midfielder Ben Garrity remains an ever-present for the Valiants this season and continued to provide energy from midfield, supporting Matty Taylor and Ellis Harrison in the final game of February at Bolton Wanderers, where he provided the opener for the Welsh striker to score his ninth of the season.

Nathan Smith

Defender Nathan Smith scored his third goal of the season in the Vale’s 3-1 defeat to Barnsley and featured in all seven fixtures in February, helping to keep a clean sheet against Exeter City and also having a goal controversially ruled out against Accrington Stanley while that game was at 1-1 in the latter stages.
