Darrell Clarke | “We all want consistency and that will happen over time"

12 September 2022

The Gaffer spoke to the press ahead of Tuesday evening’s away fixture against Barnsley.

Manager Darrell Clarke says his side will continue to build consistency going forward, with the majority of the squad still just one season into their Port Vale careers.

Looking ahead to Tuesday evening's game at Barnsley, Clarke told the press time will be his side's biggest friend as his group continue to gel.

He said: “We all want consistency and that will happen over time, I think that’s what you build, and I have massive faith in myself and my coaching staff to build that.

“It’s not rocket science, it’s about players getting used to playing with each other, getting that cohesion, and working on the training ground and everyone thinks it will happen like that, but it doesn’t, it takes a little bit of time to get flowing.

“The league’s very, very tight anyway and it’s our first time in League One for five years, so we’ll adjust along that, and we’ll keep trying to get stronger and stronger.”

Speaking about tomorrow evening’s opposition, the Gaffer said: “They’re adaptable at times, they like to play with a back three or five with two up top and one in the ten or it can be a 3-4-3 with different variations.

“They’ve had a good start and Michael Duff has done great, he did a fantastic job at Cheltenham, and it looks like he’s carrying that on at Barnsley.”

On current injuries and possible returns to action against Barnsley, the Manager stated: “I don’t really like saying a lot on injuries, I know that becomes a big frustration for a lot of people, but I don’t do it to be facetious, I do it because I don’t want to give the other team’s manager a heads up of who might be playing and who might not.”
