Port Vale’s on loan Blackburn Rovers forward Danny Butterworth says he is feeling as good as ever before in his football career as he scored for the third consecutive home game to secure a 1-0 victory for Darrell Clarke’s side against Charlton Athletic.

Butterworth fired home in front of the Bycars Stand once again as he followed up strikes against Lincoln City and Exeter City to seal another three points for the Vale on Saturday afternoon.

Reflecting post-match with iFollow the Vale, he said:

“Everyone out there today was unbelievable; the way we played out of possession, put challenges in and worked for each other – I thought we deserved the three points.

“We did two or three days of preparation and everyone knew their jobs, was switched on and it showed out there that everyone knew what they were doing because it paid off.

“For the goal, Woz [David Worrall] switched it, I just got my body in the way, flicked it over and I was just saying to the lads in the dressing room that I didn’t even know I had scored, I just heard the cheers and it was a nice feeling, nice to get another goal.

“I think I am getting in those positions more; confidence is a big thing and this is the best I have felt in a long time. I feel like I can go out there and play with freedom, knowing I have the backing of the staff and the players. I feel good and want to keep getting in those areas to score goals.

“I think I have grown into the squad quite quickly with the way the lads have been with me; I have got a lot of respect for them and they respect me. They have helped me massively and I feel like I have been here a lot longer than I have already and I think that is a good thing and shows the togetherness of the club.”
