Jack Stevens joins the Vale on loan

11 August 2022

Port Vale Football Club is delighted to confirm that Jack Stevens has joined on a season-long loan from Oxford United.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper is a product of the Oxford United youth system, that he joined from Reading at a young age.

During his younger years, he went of loans to Cirencester Town and Banbury United, before going on his first loan to Oxford City in in 2016.

The following season, Stevens went on a second loan to Oxford City, but was recalled to the U’s following an injury to their keeper, Simon Eastwood.

Stevens continued to develop his game with a short-term loan to Tamworth in January 2018 and in March of that year signed a new contract with Oxford United, keeping him at the Kassam Stadium.

The six-foot, two-inch keeper made his debut for the Us in a win against Charlton Athletic in the 2018/19 season and the club triggered an option to keep him at the club for a further year.

He became the main man between the sticks for Oxford United, playing 39 times and helping his side to reach the Sky Bet League One Play-Off’s.

The Ealing born shot stopper made another 30 appearances in League One for his side last campaign, as they finished just six points outside of the Play-Off positions.

Oxford United’s number 1 arrives at Vale Park having made 76 senior career appearances, keeping 23 clean sheets in that time.

Speaking about the addition of Stevens, manager Darrell Clarke said: “Jack arrives with a good level of League One experience, which is always key.

“It’s essential to have a couple of good goalkeepers in your squad who can compete with each other for that number one spot and help maintain the high standards we demand from our players.

“Competition for places is something we have always ensured to have in place across all positions of the pitch and I really look forward to seeing that develop.

“Jack is another really useful addition to the team that also gives us that bit more experience of League One knowhow.”

Welcome to Port Vale, Jack!
