Lewis Cass joins Valiants on season-long loan

12 July 2021

Port Vale Football Club is delighted to confirm the arrival of Lewis Cass on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old defender spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Hartlepool United, joining the side in October and playing a key role in the Pools’ promotion campaign as he registered 35 appearances in all competitions.

Prior to last season's loan, Cass had been an almost ever-present for the Under-23 squad in recent years, signing his first professional contract with the club in July 2018 and featured on the bench for the Magpies’ FA Cup third round clash at Rochdale.

Cass joins the Valiants ahead of the new campaign looking forward to his first taste of the football league.

Speaking on conclusion of the season-long loan deal, Manager Darrell Clarke commented:

“We are pleased to confirm Lewis’ arrival at the club. He is a young defender capable of playing in a couple of positions along the defensive line.

“He had a great season on loan at Hartlepool where he has played regular football, playing a key part in the Pools’ promotion campaign. Lewis will immediately join up with the squad for pre-season and we are looking forward to seeing him develop at the club.”
