Jonny Maddison signs for the Vale

31 July 2019

Port Vale are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jonny Maddison on a one year-deal.

Maddison, who will wear the number 30 on his shirt, signs after a spending a number of weeks on trial with the club and featuring in several friendly games. He also travelled with the squad to Scotland as part of the pre-season training programme.

Jonny was born in Chester-le-Street and started his career at Sunderland. After progressing his way through the youth system he made his first big move to Crawley Town back in 2013.

The goalkeeper would make his football league debut in 2016 with Yeovil Town and went onto to make 22 appearances for the club over a two year period.

Having kept a close eye on Jonny over the past few weeks during his trial period, manager John Askey says he's been impressed by what he's seen from the goalkeeper.

"He's come in and done quite well. He's fitted in with the rest of the lads and in the games he's done OK making one or two good saves and in training he's looked good.

"Jonny's got a great attitude and it's up to him now to try and push Scott Brown. We got to see more of him in Scotland on a day to day basis and like I said he fitted in well.

"He's a good size, a good shot stopper, he's got one or two things he needs to work on but working with Ronnie Sinclair I'm sure it'll improve him."
