Luton Town ensured that they kept their place at the summit of Sky Bet League Two with a narrow victory away to Crewe Alexandra, but Notts County only lie behind the Hatters on goal difference following a 2-1 win versus Colchester United.
The final automatic promotion spot is currently taken up by Accrington Stanley, but they allowed Exeter City to close the gap to just one point, falling to defeat at St James’ Park. Goals from Hiram Boateng and Pierce Sweeney secured a crucial set of three points for the Grecians.
Wycombe Wanderers strengthened their place in the play-offs after defeating Yeovil Town, while Coventry City and Mansfield make up the remainder of the top seven despite drawing versus Crawley Town and Chesterfield respectively.
Swindon Town’s home defeat to Newport County saw them drop down to 8th, while the Exiles rise to 9th following the impressive away triumph. Lincoln City’s 3-1 success over Port Vale also lifted them to 10th, while Neil Aspin’s Valiants sit one place above the bottom two.
Barnet missed the chance to climb out of the relegation zone as they fell to defeat against Grimsby Town, but Chesterfield are now in touching distance of safety after picking up a point at Mansfield.
Elsewhere, Forest Green Rovers and Cheltenham Town played out a 1-1 draw, Cambridge United edged past Stevenage and Carlisle United shared the spoils with Morecambe at Brunton Park.
