Welcome To Vale Park - Martin Paterson

26 August 2016

We are delighted to announce the signing of Martin Paterson.

The 29 year-old has been training with the first team and has today put pen to paper to sign for the Valiants.

Paterson, who was born in Tunstall, Staffordshire, began his career at Stoke City, before impressing on loan at Grimsby Town, where Scunthorpe United then signed him in 2007.

Martin then went on to score 14 goals, which led to Burnley paying £1 million for him in 2008 and his 19 goals helped fire them into the Premier League.

Four years later at Turf Moor, the striker moved to Huddersfield for two years, also spending time on loan at Bristol City, Fleetwood Town and Orlando City during his time with the Terriers.

He then joined Orlando on permanent deal in the summer of 2015, but moved quickly on to Blackpool where he spent last season.

Elsewhere, Paterson is a Northern Ireland international, earning 22 caps and scoring three goals during his time with the National side.

The striker will now link up with his new team mates at Vale, becoming the 16th signing of a busy summer.

He will wear the number 13 shirt and will look to compete for a place upfront alongside Anton Forrester, Alex Jones and Rigino Cicilia.
