Player Of The Year Michael O’Connor Agrees New Contract

Port Vale are delighted to announce that last season’s Player of the Year Michael O’Connor has agreed to sign a new contract with the club.

The 27-year-old was instrumental for the Valiants last term, making 47 appearances and scoring seven goals on his way to four end-of-season awards.

Having started his career at Crewe Alexandra, O’Connor spent time on loan at Lincoln before moving to Scunthorpe United in 2009.

After three years at Glanford Park he signed for Rotherham United, where he contributed to promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2014.

The midfielder joined Vale last summer and established himself as one of the best in his position in League One.

Speaking of O’Connor’s agreement, manager Rob Page said: “We’re ecstatic to have agreed terms with Michael O’Connor.

“It was clear for all to see last season that he was a key player for us and he was someone we were extremely keen to keep.

“I think the fact he is staying is a statement of intent from everyone at this football club.”
