Look ahead to our visit to Aspire Stadium
FIXTURE: Newcastle Town v Port ValeDATE: Saturday 11th July
KICK OFF: 2.30pm
VENUE: Aspire Stadium.
SAT NAV INFO: ST5 3BX
Vale start their pre-season campaign away to Evo-Stik Division One South side Newcastle Town in the club's first game of 2015/16.
The game which is the club’s traditional curtain-raiser will be a chance for all members of the first-team squad to get their first experience of match action since returning to training on the 1st July. It will also be a chance to further develop the players’ fitness levels ahead of the first league game of the season away to Crewe Alexandra on August 8th.
The fixture will also see the five new summer signings – Remie Streete, Sam Kelly, Sam Foley, Ben Purkiss and Anthony Grant - make their first appearances as full-time Valiants.
Last season’s encounter between the two teams saw Vale come away from the Aspire Stadium 6-0 victors through goals from Chris Lines, Ben Williamson, Javan Vidal, Colin Daniel and two goals from Ryan Lloyd.
Rob Page admits the result is not the most important thing though.
“We want to win everything that we put ourselves into but ultimately these first few games are about fitness, it is about building them up to 90 minutes, that replicates match fitness and that (playing matches) is better than any training we can do.”
Supporters can pay on the day to enter the Aspire Stadium for the 2:30pm kick-off, so with a sunny day forecasted why not come down and support Vale as they begin their 2014/15 season.
