Midfielder Talks To Valiant Player After Oakwell Loss
- Vale lost 2-1 at Oakwell to Barnsley on a tough afternoon.
- Lines started for the first time since November, when he was sent off at MK Dons.
- The midfielder was delighted to be back in the starting line-up as he completed 90 minutes.
Chris Lines was disappointed with Port Vale’s performance at Barnsley but admitted it was nice to be back in the starting line-up and is now targeting a return to top form.
Colin Daniel scored a second half volley to cut Barnsley’s lead after a Chris Neal own goal and Ben Pearson’s strike had given the hosts a two-goal advantage.
But the Valiants were unable to bag an equaliser at Oakwell, meaning they missed the chance to do the double over Danny Wilson’s men.
Having been out of Rob Page’s starting line-up since November, midfielder Lines was brought back into the side in South Yorkshire and completed the 90 minutes.
Speaking exclusively to Valiant Player after the match, the midfielder told of his joy at regaining his place and said he is now hoping for a run in the team.
“It’s been probably one of the longest, I think it was two months since I’ve started 90 minutes,” he said. “I didn’t even have a reserve game or anything in between so it’s been tough.”
“I was a bit tired in the last ten minutes but I enjoyed it, felt I kept the ball well and hopefully I can build up a little run and get back to the form I showed just before I got sent off at MK Dons.”
